In which the pond can't resist a truth-telling Devine troll ...

In the end, the pond knew it was being trolled, but it couldn't resist. That's why it snuck it out late in the day so no one would notice.

The Devine isn't a truth teller, the Devine is an opinion teller. Sometimes opinion coincides with what's widely perceived to be the truth, and often, especially in the case of the Devine, it doesn't.

The pond doesn't want to sound too French structuralist, neo-relativist about this in a post-modern deconstructive way, but the Devine as truth teller? Lay on McDuff or McBrook ...

Now it's impossible for the pond to leap to the defence of the Bolter, but really the Devine saying he's got a glass jaw is not much different to the pond saying he's an epic dickhead. Or perhaps that's closer to the truth, because the lefties who staged a rumble never got to test his jaw ...

What we're really dealing with here is creepy crawling navel gazing where the reptiles get up each other ...

And thus a mutual admiration society is born ... and new best friends replace old best friends ...

How relativist can we get?

'What I think is the truth' isn't the truth.

Now the pond understands the reptiles are under extreme stress to deliver the clicks, but reptiles talking to each other to the admiring sighs of other reptiles is surely only of interest to the sort of specialist loons that drop in on the pond ...

Somehow it feels like a scene from a high school teen flick about who's in and out in the senior gang ...

Oh dear ...

Can we delve into even more fluff in the navel?

Of course there are alternatives. It is possible to write a column without the singular aim of polarising and alienating people, and staging a performance, and trolling in a click-baiting way ... though perhaps not in Murdoch land.

You know one where you actually try to make reasoned arguments rather than rail at bike riders or demand greenies be hung from the nearest tree, and then enjoy the sound of shit hitting the fan ...

The only time the Devine seems to manage it is when she's in a mutual admiration society, and everybody - well at least a few reptile friends of reptiles - pause to admire ...

Oh she's so tough, she's a driller killer, and they drop like flies ...

Is there an emoji for twee?

Sheesh, if this keeps up, the next thing you know the pond will be running a Tweety Bird meme ...

  1. Oh but today's post almost had me in heartbroken tears. Just imagine it: the sweet, innocent, naive - but always totally right - Miranda speaks truth to friendly power, and she's immediately unfriended and castigated.

Oh can we bare it ? The Dearest Devine - just look at the beatific expression she has on those totally expressive pictures (nobody mention them to Shari, please) - treated so callously ? Especially when she doesn't have anybody that she can unfriend in turn - not a single person she can thoughtlessly throw away.

So sad. I am so grieved.
