In which the pond explores a Trove of copper and trivia ...

The pond rarely gets itself involved in causes - reptile watching is the primary duty - and any way, given the way that Malware killed off community television in Sydney so that we might have gambling on the multichannels - don't try to tell the pond that they're games of skill - perhaps the pond's support is a certain sign of impending doom.

But the pond feels strongly about this one ...

Trove is a national treasure.

Trove is an agile, innovative response to the vast collective memory that once resided on film in the basement of the state libraries and was wretchedly hard to search and use ...

Declaration of interest: the pond was in on the vision at the earliest of days and now, in its other life, uses Trove on a daily basis.

Which is why Paul Daley's piece National Library's Trove: a great digital democracy under threat is well worth the read:

A paltry, poltroonish $6 million.

Now the pond suffered when Trove went through its recent upgrade, but then it came out better .. and it was already invaluable ...

Well you can look up #fundtrove  - and hopefully join the pond in maintaining the rage ...

Meanwhile, as if to prove the point about what a dullard, dangerous dope Malware constitutes for anything agile and innovative, everything you need to know is contained within the ABC headline, NBN: Government urged to embrace fibre to home, Ziggy Switkowsky denies project behind schedule ...

The pond knows why Ziggy is defending the indefensible. He's a time serving, forelock tugging hack, and this is his latest gig ...

Look at the master dissembler, evader and casuist in action ...

Well played Ziggy. Keep on backing the wrong horse ...

The progress in terms of copper has been fabulously fast?

Waiter is there a bar of soap in the house? A naughty boy sophist needs his mouth washed out with soap...

And more Wilcox here.

And now to a distraction. Where would social media be without a distraction from the trials and tribulations of contemplating a Ziggy or worrying about Malware seizing all the files?

A kindly reader sent in this little bit of Newtown arcana ...

Now the pond wouldn't know Hans from a bar of soap, and couldn't locate him on Twitter - we didn't look that hard - but the pond is indebted to the news that Akker Dakker rehearsed above a porn shop in Newtown.

And then the band went on to write bizarre extreme right wing columns for the Terrorists.

Or some such thing.

And some try to tell the pond the world's not an amazing, wonderful place ...

  1. What a cultural experience it would have been to see a youthful, slim-hipped (well.... only mildly obese) Akker Dakker rehearsing those early hits; "Rock & Roll Ain't Noise Pollution (But my Blatherings Are)", "Whole Lotta Miranda", "It's a Long Way to the Tele (If You Wanna Sell Your Soul)", and so many, many more!
