Speaking of dinosaurs, the Titanic and kitchen fittings in Rome, as one does on a meditative Monday ...

(Above: and more essential Rowe here).

The pond doesn't understand the reptiles.

Perhaps we should use more modern argot. The pond doesn't 'get' the reptiles, isn't hip to them, can't dig the rhythm ... even when they say you need to be hot to be cool ...

You see, the reptiles have been chasing Palmer for years, seizing every opportunity to do him down. They almost killed good old Hedders in the process, as he scuttled from garbage bin to garbage bin for a story.

And then yesterday, confronted with a genuine Queensland rolled gold, handsomely plated opportunity, they lead with this ...

Yes, they picked up a lazy AAP story containing tributes to the mighty Titanic of the north ...

Was it an accident? A bit of Sunday laziness? A post-ironic sense of post-modern post-reflexiveness? The new regime at work? Any chance to snipe at the Queensland government and give that dullard Springbord a push being too irresistible to resist? On the remote chance that the Queensland government should have paid Clive to pay Clive ...

Well who knows, but they took the trouble to freshen up the use of 'hero' in today's digital splash:

Perhaps - it's a very remote chance - it was the reptiles acknowledging that the pond was right all along and that Palmer would in due course shoot himself in the foot, and not just turn up late at night on the ABC to simper along with Tony ...

Why if Palmer is a 'hero', then the pond is a living Greek mythological legend ... and so surely it was a bit of post-modernist irony, this 'hero' business, thanks to the new regime ...

And for confirmation, the pond only had to look to the left in the splashes and see that the reptiles had decided to publish, without a shred of conventional irony, the latest thoughts of the Pellists, once known as the most astonishing tribe of climate scientists the world had seen outside Moorice and the Bolter ...

Naturally the pond was on full irony alert ... because right up there with 'hero' came the clarion call for the rich to pay their debt ...

Indeed, indeed, and as a final teaser, will there be enough young people to keep the church's Ponzi scheme in operation, and the church's most resplendent officers in the style to which they've become accustomed, and if the world sinks beneath the oceans, which Pellist climate scientist will the young be likely to thank the most?

Oh yes, it was irony central, rich proof that Clive wasn't the only one expert in the art ...

Ah well never mind, it's clear enough that the young will inherit the kitchen fittings, and a frock's a frock and who could ever ask anyone to give up a good frock ...

Let's just have a little final flourish of heartfelt, deeply wondrous hypocrisy ...

As always, when featuring the Pellists, the pond likes to end by featuring a decent frock.

Now this number the pond would like to feature is much more reserved than the usual garish, vulgar outings done in the style of the eastern suburbs nouveau riche ...

... though it makes a fine form of dress for occasions when lecturing the rich about incongruous wealth ....

But no, today, the pond would like to celebrate basic, elegant black. It's always worked in Melbourne, the pond always felt comfortable in Fitzroy and Collingwood and Brunswick street and indeed in Brunswick itself, even these days spreading right up the road to Coburg ...

And after all, this is surely the right time to celebrate delusional Melbourne, as embodied by James Hird ...

No, the pond didn't watch. The pond rarely watches the ABC these days ... but then the pond also didn't spend any time watching Lance Armstrong ...

Yes, the HUNsters wisely turned to social media to do the reporting, here, as the only form of journalism suitable to respond to the ABC serving up an apologist who apparerently refused to admit or acknowledge anything in the way of an apology ...

But thinking of bizarre Melbourne almost made the pond forget that basic black outfit.

Almost. Now please, note the cut and the quality of the cloth and the way the ensemble is enlivened with a pert bright red sash ... and how discreet and stylish is that carry bag and the nicely leathered shoes ...

All that's left to be said is 'thanks be unto the reptiles' for getting Monday off to such a fine start the pond almost began to think of it as an extended meditative Sunday ...

  1. Now regarding your reportage of Cardinal Pell-Mell, DP, I have noticed that:

    1. In addition to his world leading climate science qualifications, he has added outstanding economics skills:

"Societies such as Australia were unwilling to admit they were living beyond their means and that immense national debts had to be contained, Cardinal George Pell told an international finance conference in Rome yesterday."

    2. He is a leading warrior in the Great War on Poverty:

"Business Class flights, $6,650 on kitchen fittings and $3600 on religious robes: How Australia's Cardinal Pell, dubbed 'the Pope's Accountant', "has spent thousands on a lavish Vatican lifestyle."

You can take it for granite, there's no needle's eye that man couldn't sidle through.

And, 3. He stands as a prime example to Gen X in the matter of sartorial style:

"... how discreet and stylish is that carry bag and the nicely leathered shoes ..."

The more I see of your reports on the man DP, the more I can see that he really is prime 'Pope material'.

And you saw it first on Loon Pond.

  2. "The future belonged to those with children, he said."

Not "belongs" (third-person singular simple present indicative form of belong)? So a "Freudian" complex slip into the past tense of clerical dreaming where once children "belonged" in every way to rising stars such as himself? Was Pell dreaming of the good old days, or is this piece of shit going to turn up at the royal commission and admit to his own involvement in the RC's crimes against children for those past millennia? Will he admit to all the futures so ended?

Will that do the PR trick, and have Malware further extend taxpayer funding to all the RC's depraved unfunded hideous liabilities?
