A fair go for smaller government ...

Never mind the grammar ("wife's student") and never mind that Dennis Jensen at first go was unable to nominate the correct primary school at which his wife apparently worked, please just look in a startled fashion at Dennis Jensen twittering ...

As for the actual allegations?

The West Australian Department of Education says the tweets are entirely without foundation and have no basis in fact.
The department says positions have not been finalised at the school and that Dr Jensen's wife did not apply for any of the jobs that lead to permanency.
"I'm sure I'll have a discussion with Dennis over the next couple of days to articulate my concerns," Education Minister Peter Collier said. (Liberal MP calls WA school principal a 'Labor hack', claims wife denied permanent teaching job)

No doubt Jensen will find himself in the wars, but you have to wonder why he made such a hash of it:

"Our principals have a very, very difficult role to play; they do not need this sort of negative feedback, particularly from members of Parliament."
Liberal Party state director Ben Morton says the tweets are a matter for Dr Jensen.

Actually the tweets should be a matter for Tony Abbott. A reprimand and a public apology at a minimum.

The ABC has contacted Dr Jensen for comment.

The pond is standing by ...

Already some bloggers have taken the hapless Jensen to task, here,

And indeed there does seem to be a fine irony about an advocate of "smaller government" bleating about a government job for the wife, and an advocate of the "fair go" apparently failing to realise that special pleading by a federal MP hardly constitutes a "fair go" ...

But not to worry.

Each day Tony Abbott must be thinking he dodged a bullet by not appointing an outright climate science denialist to be Minister of Science, even if that means there's no Minister at all ... but that won't stop the wild cards in the pack turning his government into a twittering circus, which keeps on giving on a daily basis.

Now let's all have a drink with Mr. Jensen.

Relax, don't be alarmed, it's only a cola and it's got a life giving gas in it ...

  1. Jensen should act on his beliefs of Smaller Government and act on the words of Oliver Cromwell:

"You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!

  2. Like chocolate, DP? Then, let's have no more hasty words about the Dutch. A wonderful application of media tools that some of the latter-day efforts, like Bruce News, could try to emulate.
With that settled, The Slog has stitched up a gruesome tale of nepotism in the UK that includes, naturally, Newscorp.

  3. Can imagine the whinging that goes on over breakfast chez Jensen.
"I should be science minister, I'm the only one whose qualified - Greg Hunt's a mug"
"Yeah, I'm the best teacher ever - a kid's parent told me while I was at parent teacher interviews"
