Sir Charles Mackerras ...

Sir Charles Mackerras is dead, but the work he did will linger on.

ABC FM has rightly sprung to the tiller to celebrate his prolific career.

In the meantime, since Mackerras contributed more to the world than all the commentariat columnists put into a box and dropped eight fathoms deep, we pause for a moment with a break from looniness.

Mackerras was a supporter of the works of Janáček, especially his operas, but that's just one portion of his long and varied career, covered here in his wiki.

Meanwhile, we thought we'd run a couple of excerpts from the Galgolitic Mass, which Mackerras did in its original version.

The YouTube poster doesn't give the source - perhaps fearing a take down notice - but anyway, when I think of Mackerras I think of this kind of music. Something else again ...

Sigh. Normal loon business will resume tomorrow, same as it ever was ...
